A Just Intonation (JI) guitar is a guitar that has been modified or built to play in a tuning system based on pure whole-number ratios (like 3:2 or 5:4) rather than the standard 12-tone Equal Temperament found on almost all modern guitars.

Because standard guitar frets are placed to divide the octave into 12 mathematically equal steps, they are actually slightly "out of tune" with the natural harmonic series. A Just Intonation guitar corrects this to produce perfectly pure, beating-free chords, but it requires significant physical changes to the instrument.
